Information about Willow Grove:
An amusement park that is now a three-storey mall marks Willow Grove. The furniture in the mall, particularly in the food court, features postcards and other mementoes from the amusement park.
Willow Grove is located in the Montgomery County of Pennsylvania and its history can be traced back 300 years to its establishment by a land grant by William Penn, known as the Manor of Moreland. Willow Grove used to be a popular summer retreat for people of Philadelphia.
Today, mainly white non-Hispanic residents make up Willow Grove apart from a small population of Blacks, Koreans and Asian Indians. Almost 22% of the barely 20,000 residents of Willow Grove are of German descent.
Overall Willow Grove is quaint and simple with not many places to visit. Open countryside and beautiful scenery greets all visitors.
The Mercer Museum has fantastic displays on early American history. The Museum is built like a concrete castle.
For the aviation enthusiast, however, there is the Wings of Freedom Museum that cannot be missed. It is dedicated to the preservation and display of aviation history of the Delaware Valley. The Museum is maintained by a group of volunteers who spend the year collecting and restoring vintage aircraft, artifacts and mementoes. They also have a research facility and thousands of books, photographs, audio-visual presentation on aviation. Group tours are often organized and the Museum gift shop is absolutely fascinating for the aviation lover. Nearby is a naval base that is in the process of being decommissioned.
For the true farm experience, you cannot miss the Tanner Brothers’ Farm that has been here since 1890. They are well-known for supplying the area with fresh fruit, vegetables, milk, dairy products and a range of ice-creams.
Willow Grove experiences warm summers and cold winters with the temperature range going from an average of 86.50 degrees Fahrenheit in July to 23.60 degrees Fahrenheit in January. Rainfall is little and round the year.
Bus rental and charter is common in Willow Grove. Though, local residents prefer walking and biking. The Greyhound Bus Line is easily accessible and connects Willow Grove to New York. Usually tourists on a camping or hiking trip, and a visit to the aviation museum, can hire a bus for a few hours too.
