Information about Kissimmee:
Kissimmee is a sizeable county with an area of about 17 sq miles and a population of around 61,000 in the county of Osceola in Florida. It was founded in the 19th century by the name of Allendale and was granted the city status in 1883, from when it came to be known as Kissimmee. This town has constantly bore the brunt of many hurricanes like the Hurricane Charley, Hurricane Frances and which was followed by another Hurricane Jeanne in 2004. The main occupation of the town has been Ranching for a long time.
It is located on the Kissimmee River and to the north-west of the Lake Tohopekaliga which is locally popular as the Lake Toho or just as the West Lake. The population of the county is mostly consistent of whites, which make up about 70% of the total population with African-American’s making around 10% of the total population. If we look in terms of race Hispanics and Latinos make up around 50% of the total population with small communities of Mexicans and Columbians. Around 15% of the population is under the poverty line.
The town is connected to the outside world by rails; it has an Amtrak Railway Station. Intercity transport is mainly by buses which are provided by the Lynx Bus Service. It has a Greyhound Bus Station. The city also had a single airport which went out of service in late 2008. The main sites of interest in the city are the Osceola Centre for Arts and Osceola County Historical Museum. The famous Disney World which was formed in 1971 is also located very near in the city of Orlando.
