Santa Monica is located on the Santa Monica Bay in the County of Los Angeles in California, Santa Monica Bay is a part of the Pacific Ocean, and hence provides Santa Monica with a long coastline. It has a area of about 16 sq miles and a population of around 88,000. It was named after the Saint Monica, as the Spaniards visited this city first, on her feast day. The town is mostly consistent of whites with around 79% population, and 2nd are the Asians with around 7.5%, and African Americans are also is the same range.
It has a fairly sunny weather, and that’s why it has also been a famous destination among tourists. Haze and Morning fog are very common in the area and this phenomenon has come to be known by the locals as ”May Gray” and “June Gloom”. But overall the place is mostly sunny and strong sun burns are very common, September being the hottest month of the year. Yearly rains are also common mostly during the period from late October to late March.
Some of the famous spots of the city include the Santa Monica Museum of Art and The Heritage Museum. The city also plays host to the Santa Monica Film Festival. It has some very old theatres like The Majestic, The Aero and The Criterion which were build during the 1930’s and Still show movies. Its also famous for its skate boarding culture, it has given the world some very talented skate boarders.
Santa Monica is Western point of the famous Route 66. The Santa Monica freeway, which is one of the busiest highways in all of North America also starts from here and ends at downtown Los Angeles. The City has two major bus services, the Big Blue Service and also the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus lines. The bus services are adequately supported by the metros.
