The J.Paul Getty Museum is one of the most visited art museums in the United States of America and is under the J.Paul Getty Trust. It has two locations in Los Angeles: the Getty Center and the Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades. While the museum in Getty center specializes in western art from Middle ages to the present, the one at Getty Villa showcases art from ancient Rome, Greece and Etruria.
The museum at Getty Villa is regarded as the richest museum in this world and occupies over 750 acres in the foothills of Santa Monica Mountain. The museum, which started with J Paul Getty’s private collections, has now nine buildings and it takes four exit pavilions to exhibit a part of the museum.
The architecture of the museum is itself so awesome that people spend most of their visiting hours admiring the impressive work by Richard Meier. However, they boast of rich collections like art works from Rembrandt and Van Gogh. Apart from these, there are around 1500 manuscripts in each of the buildings, which make it impossible to observe and admire the complete museum in one day. The museum, which has no entry charge, has guides, as well as helpers and facilities like wheelchairs and strollers to accommodate everyone.
The museum is very accessible from all the nearby points. By driving, one can reach through the I-405 or the Sepulveda Boulevard, which is parallel and much faster. It must be noted that although the entry is free, there will a parking charge for automobiles, but bicycles and motorcycles can be parked for free.
