San Jose is situated in Santa Clara County, California, USA. It is at an elevation of 26 meters above sea level. It is the third biggest city of California and the tenth biggest city of USA. It is nicknamed as ‘the capital of Silicon Valley’.
This city has a Mediterranean climate. It is a semi-arid region because it lies inland, and is surrounded by mountain ranges on three sides. The daily temperatures in San Jose are more or less moderate, varying by 30 or 40 °F between daytime and night-time. The light rainfall enables San Jose to witness more than 300 days of ample sunshine. Rainfall occurs from October to April or May, and the rest of the year is dry. Snowfall occurs rarely and it is meager.
The estimated population in 2007 was 939,899. The population could be classified as 51% White, 32% Asian, 4% Blacks or African Americans, 1% American Indians and Alaska native; and 31% Hispanic or Latino of any race. The city has a rich ethnicity because people from different religions like Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism and Judaism peacefully co-exist. San Jose has the highest Vietnamese-American population of all cities in the USA; which amounts to 9%.
The city is sprawled over an area of 461.5 square kilometers, most of which is land. It is located close to San Andreas Fault- which is a prominent source of earthquake activity. Many earthquakes in the past years have destroyed buildings in San Jose. The river Guadalupe runs through San Jose and terminates at the San Francisco Bay.
There are numerous tourist attractions and hotspots for visitors such as an array of parks, gardens and outdoor sights; adventure trails; museums, libraries and sports venues. The parks include Alma den Quicksilver County Park, Alum Rock Park, Circle of Palms Plaza, Kelley Park, Kirk Park, the Raging Waters water park with water rides, the Rosicrucian Park among others. There are many adventure and recreational trails like the Coyote Creek Trail, Guadalupe River trail, Los Gatos Creek trail, Silver Creek Valley trail and many more. The other interesting places of interest are- the Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose, the Mexican Heritage Plaza, the Portuguese Historical Museum, the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum, the San Jose Museum Of Art, and the San Jose Steam Railway Museum.
THE Santa Clara Valley Transport Authority manages many bus routes in San Jose and its neighborhood communities. Also, there is a Highway 17 Express bus line which connects central San Jose to Santa Cruz.
