Information about Tulalip:

Native Americans are known for the fact that they have preserved their cultures for centuries. Even in the modern day world, the Native Americans have their own set of values and way of living. Tulalip is one of the Native American groups of people. Tulalips come from the west of Washington.

This group of Native Americans settled down to the west of Washington in the middle of 19th century. At that time Washington was still called as Washington Territory. Tulalip people signed a treaty with this territory, which is called as Point Elliot Treaty. Marysville Tulalip community today exits on the reservation lands; it lies to the west of 5th Interstate highway. 

Tulalip still exists as a tribe of Native American people. This tribe has a logo of its own. There are many groups of people who are indigenous and a part of this group. At present Tulalip is one great mixture of people coming from various small Native American groups.

The indigenous groups include Samish, Skagit, Snohomish, Stillaguamish and Snoqualmie.  Although these people came from different groups, they speak a common language which is their actual binding force. At present the part of land where Tulalip resides is connected to the rest of the world and even as a tourist you can visit it by bus. In the past these people had fishing as their most important job. They earned their living through fishing. Most of Tulalips built long houses of planks.

There are many Tulalip communities. These include Cathan, Priest point, Stimson Crossing, John Sam Lake, Shaker Church, Weallup Lake and Tulalip Bay. In Western part of the Snohomish County, Tulalip Indian Reservation is located on the Port Susan. According to the census of year 2000, the number of people residing in this reservation is more than 9,000. It is easily the largest Tulalip community.
