Information about Seattle Airport:

The Airport has been dogged by many controversies over the years.

Once the local residents protested that it was leading to noise and air pollution and should be razed! This led to the Port authorities buying out buildings in the area for several million dollars and soundproofing several others.

Port of Seattle constructed the Seattle-Tacoma Airport in 1944. Part of the funds came from the Tacoma city authorities, hence the name. Another controversy erupted when the Port Commission wanted to name the airport after Senator Jackson but Tacoma residents protested. The Seattle-Tacoma International Airport’s Central Terminal building includes four concourses connected to the two satellite terminals with an underground people mover system.

Another controversy that affected the airport was when the Southwest Airlines said they would move to Boeing Field near by because of heavy costs at the airport.

Controversies aside, the Seattle Airport has also been victim to a prank. In February, 2009, dozens of planes landing at the airport were ‘hit’ by bright green laser beams from an area near the airport. No accidents took place but it swung the FBI into locating the pranksters.

Today, the Seattle Airport is the 18th busiest airport in America. Marine West Coast Climate makes it accessible round the year.  With flights to as far off as Japan, the international airport may soon be linked to Shanghai as well.

For transit purposes, the Seattle Airport is connected with the King County metro transit bus system. Visitors can also try the Sound Transit regional express bus apart from the rental taxis and cars. There is a regular and cheap bus service to downtown Vancouver, Canada through Quick Shuttle.
