Westminster is a city with an area of 10.1 sq miles and a population of around 89,000 in the Orange County in the state of California. The city is totally landlocked and is bordered in the south by the Fountain Valley, in north and east by Garden Grove and by the Seal Beach on the Western Side. It was founded by Rev. Lemuel Webber as a colony for the Presbyterian faith in 1870. It was the winner of the 1996 All American City Award.
Out of the total population, around 45% are white; it also has a major Asian community as around 37% of the population is Asian. The City saw a large insurgence of the Vietnamese after the Vietnam War in the 1970’s, the area in which they settled is now called as Little Saigon. The per capita income of the City is $18,218, with 13.5% of the total population being below the poverty line. The temperature is mostly hot and humid throughout the year.
The main spots of interest include the memorial, built for the victims who were on the Pam Am plane which was involved in the Tenerife Disaster that happened on March 27, 1977. There’s also a memorial dedicated to the Vietnam War located in Sir Goldstein Freedom Park near the Local Civic Centre. The memorial was completed in 2003. For recreational activities there’s the Liberty State Park, that is appropriate for the beginner as well as an intermediate skater. The bus service in the city is provided by the Orange County Transportation Authority, which has many bus routes that connects it to the other parts of Orange County.
